The Medienschiff, used by the Stadtbüro, the police office and the public library, has been erected on the Weiterstadt Marktplatz.
The supporting structure – beamless floors, struts and shear walls – is built as reinforced concrete structure. The prominent appearance of the building is shaped by the supporting exterior walls. These shear walls conduct the loads of the roof into only few v-shaped struts on the ground floor. By this not only the ground floor is largely without struts but also the big cantilevers of the upper floors were possible. In order to reduce the gauge of the floors, they have been chucked into the exterior walls.
