The interactive installation HIVE hovers over the water surface of a pond in the Wallanlage behing the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. It is an intelligent, self organizing organism that translates swarm movements into animated light and sound. HIVE is 14 x 7 x 5 m large and consists of 1.600 Capix LED-luminaires made by Zumtobel Lighting GmbH. The underlying steel construction made of bended tubes is steadied by polymere ropes and weighs about 700 kg. Thus is could be suspended by a mobile crane.
